About us

Our story began in 1951, when a thirteen-year-old Ottavio Buffagnotti set off one day on a bicycle with a cart to sell the first Orchidea product: “bucato saponina” in powder for laundry, giving away a wooden clothespin with each purchase.

During the years of economic revival, the household cleaning sector also experienced significant boom. Orchidea established itself as a leader in the distribution of bleach and hand soap, becoming second only to Johnson & Johnson. Starting from the simple sale of bags of soda lye, the company progressively expanded its product range, achieving an ever-increasing variety.

But Ottavio’s curiosity did not stop there. He traveled to the United States to attend the first seminar on trade and distribution in the 1950s: the era of supermarkets was about to arrive. After receiving recognition for his work in Italy, he returned with the awareness that his intuition was correct and with a renewed enthusiasm for experimenting with new things.

And so, upon returning to Italy, he founded the equipped chemical laboratory that still represents our heritage today. Driven by the same passion for creating new products, we leverage advanced technologies, face competition, and optimize customer service. With the collaboration of experts, we always aim for the best quality-price ratio, just as we did back then.

For 70 years, Orchidea has offered a complete line of household cleaning products in both the national and international markets, also proposing a wide range of personal hygiene products.

Our commercial policy is to position ourselves as a second brand, providing an alternative for every market-leading product. We stand out for our commitment to the continuous pursuit of quality and respect for the environment, both in our products and in our packaging.

Our facility is equipped with a photovoltaic system, which means we are giving back to the environment around us. This is because we generate clean, inexhaustible energy that would otherwise have come from highly polluting fossil sources. Solar energy, in fact, is not only inexhaustible and has a supply that exceeds the entire global demand, but it also allows for a reduction in CO2 emissions that are harmful to humans and the environment. For every kWh produced by photovoltaics, we avoid 700 grams of polluting emissions, the leading cause of global warming and air pollution.
